Jamestown, NY – Sometimes numbers tell the story. Sometimes names do.

The organization whose four naturalists had more than 15,000 student contacts in classrooms, schoolyards and community parks throughout Chautauqua and Warren Counties during the past school year is now officially named the Audubon Community Nature Center.

“The combination of a dedicated staff, enthusiastic volunteers, committed donors, and generous community organizations has positioned Audubon for an exciting beginning to its 60th year of service in 2017!” said Program Director Jennifer Schlick.

Audubon’s four naturalists were joined by 17 volunteer trail guides at the Center to offer Discovery Walks to over 3,000 students. A total of 264 volunteers in all areas of operation logged nearly 13,000 hours of service during Audubon Community Nature Center’s 2015-2016 year.

The updating of Audubon’s name, announced at the Annual Dinner & Volunteer Recognition Night, was accompanied by refined Mission, Vision, and Belief Statements, a new slogan, and a new logo.

The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation (CRCF) in Jamestown and the DeFrees Family Memorial Fund in Warren stepped up to assist ACNC in carrying out its mission.

The DeFrees Fund provided a grant to purchase new prop bags to carry all the materials the educators need for their work.

The Community Foundation funded new nametags for staff and volunteers, some new staff shirts, and dinners for some of the volunteer honorees.

“We are so grateful for the support we have received from both DeFrees and CRCF,” said Schlick. “They have made all the difference!”

Audubon Community Nature Center builds and nurtures connections between people and nature by providing positive outdoor experiences, opportunities to learn about and understand the natural world, and knowledge to act in environmentally responsible ways.
