Just across the border from Warren County, Pa., Audubon Community Nature Center was voted by the readers of Warren’s Times Observer newspaper as the Best Chautauqua County Destination in the Best of the Best Readers’ Choice 2025 contest.
“This is so exciting,” said Audubon Marketing and Design Director Jessica Piskor. “We have so many visitors, volunteers, and even board members from Warren County that this is truly an honor!”
The contest took place over several months, with nominations accepted in July, voting taking place in September, and winners announced on October 23. As the Times Observer’s online information describes, “This contest is fundamentally about celebrating and supporting great area institutions by raising their profile and helping them gain new fans.”
Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, N.Y., one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Year-round, visitors can explore the nearly 600-acre nature preserve, check in on the live birds of prey, experience the natural play space, and hike the more than five miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free. During warmer weather, the native tree arboretum, gardens, and picnic area increase the offerings.
The Nature Center building is home to the Blue Heron Gift Shop and three floors of interactive exhibits, including live animals, that inform and engage all ages. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1-4:30 p.m. Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders have free building admission daily. Building admission is also free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members.
Audubon’s regular programs feature monthly First Fridays presenters, First Sunday Story Times for children ages 2-8 with an adult, Little Explorers for 3- to 8-year-olds with an adult on second Saturdays, and children’s day camps all summer and then most months. Special events include the Dragons and Fairies Festival, Enchanted Forest, Thanksgiving with the Birds, and Christmas with the Critters.
