Life and Times of Monarchs by Jeff Tome
The life of Monarchs is full of oddities. The caterpillar only eats milkweed, and the mom only lays her eggs on milkweed. The egg is so small that the caterpillar’s droppings will be larger than the egg in just a week and a half. Like many newborns, caterpillars spend their time eating, pooping and growing. It only takes a couple of weeks to be large enough to make a chrysalis and move onto the next stage of life.
Positive Mental Attitude by Chelsea Jandreau
When planning a trip, the decision-making process often revolves around the participants physical ability to complete the distance or terrain, but many people often forget the mental and emotional energy that can make or break a trip outside. Having a negative mindset can ruin an adventure for yourself and those around you if you let it persist. While shared group suffering through a challenge can definitely be a vehicle for group bonding, there is a line where that melts into actual bickering and leads to an unenjoyable experience.
Grasshoppers and a Three-Year-Old by Sarah Hatfield
I recently spent some time with a delightful three-year-old. Among other things, she was entranced by the creepy crawlies – they were all bugs to her. Of course, I immediately found her a container for her insects and we became bug-hunting buddies. Grasshoppers and crickets were the most prolific.
Water Plants by Katie Finch
Aquatic plants have some fascinating features to survive and thrive in their habitat.
The Early Bird gets the Caterpillar by Jeff Tome
Think of caterpillars as the cows of the natural world. They eat massive amounts of leaves that they quickly turn into the flesh of their bodies. If a baby human grew as fast as a Monarch Caterpillar, it would be the size of a school bus in two weeks.
