Scholarships

Audubon strives to make nature education accessible to all. With the help of generous supporters, annual camp scholarships and academic scholarships are offered.

Read below to learn how to apply for and how to support these scholarships.

Day Camp Scholarships:

Gerald Augusto Camperships

This fund was set up at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation in memory of Gerald Augusto. It is designated to grant one or more camperships annually to matriculating or current elementary or middle school students for the study of the natural sciences at Audubon each summer. Donations made to camperships are awarded to campers and any leftover funds are contributed to the fund at CRCF to help more campers the next year.

Who is eligible?
These camperships are available to children aged 5 – 14 years, who experience barriers preventing them access to a quality, nature-based camp experience. Barriers may include, but are not limited to, financial resources, a lack of transportation, work/childcare conflicts, language, or a combination. At this time, ACNC is able to assist only in easing financial barriers but hopes to address others in the future and is collecting information to inform those efforts.

Stephanie Frucella Memorial Scholarship
This is a merit-based camp scholarship for campers 5th grade and older, which takes into account a child’s passion, interest, and willingness to give back to his or her community through volunteering or work. The family of Stephanie Frucella reviews applications and makes the decisions, with some consultation from Audubon Community Nature Center staff.

This camp scholarship is in memory of Stephanie Frucella, a 4th grade teacher. As a child, she loved to come to the Audubon with her family to walk the trails and discover wildlife, flowers, and the beauty of nature. In her life, Stephanie strived daily to make a difference in the lives of her students and her community. Through this scholarship and others, her legacy will continue.

Application deadline: First round applications due by May 1. Awarded by May 15. Later applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis as funds last.

Academic Scholarships:

Ryan Exline Memorial Scholarship

Each year in early May, Audubon Community Nature Center education staff are joined by guests and together they raise money through a day long Birdathon. The $500 scholarship raised through Birdathon is awarded to an area college-bound high school senior or college student who intends to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or related field.

Donors can pledge a set amount, or an amount per species. In years past the team has seen anywhere from 65 to 80 species of birds.

Ryan Exline was an integral part of the Audubon family for many years. He assisted with gardening, eagle care, live animal care, and educational programs. He was pursuing a master’s degree at Duke University when he died in a car accident. He is deeply missed. ACNC honors him by naming this scholarship for him.
