Jamestown, N.Y. – You are invited to walk off some Thanksgiving turkey on the trails at Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) on Thanksgiving and the day after, even though the Nature Center building will be closed those days.

Be sure to come back and do some holiday shopping at ACNC’s Blue Heron Gift Shop on Small Business Saturday, November 24, the national shopping day created to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do to support their communities.

You will be delighted with the selection at the Blue Heron, everything from nature-related books and field guides, adult coloring books and nature journals to t-shirts, polo shirts, and jackets.

You will want to check out the glasses, travel mugs, puzzles, distinctive jewelry, notecards and stationery, handcrafted walking sticks, animal hand puppets, and more. You may find the locally produced edibles and soaps particularly appealing.

Now is also a good time to purchase bird feeders and Conewango Blend birdseed, specially formulated for our local feathered friends.

The Nature Center’s year-round building hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays.

You are welcome to walk the trails and visit Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle, dawn to dusk year-round. There is no charge for outdoor activities, and building admission is always free to explore the Blue Heron Gift Shop.

Sundays are free admission days for the Nature Center building, where you can enjoy displays of local reptiles and amphibians, plus tanks of freshwater fish. Other indoor exhibits include Frogs, Energy, and Pollination. There is seating to observe a beautiful view of birds, chipmunks, squirrels and sometimes even deer at the birdfeeders.

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa. To learn about the many programs offered at ACNC, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or visit auduboncnc.org.

Audubon Community Nature Center builds and nurtures connections between people and nature by providing positive outdoor experiences, opportunities to learn about and understand the natural world, and knowledge to act in environmentally responsible ways.
