Jamestown, N.Y. – The longest night of the year gives way to increasing light on the winter solstice.
You can cheer on the lengthening days with a bonfire, a winter walk, a seasonal reflection led by Samsara Yoga Center, or just time spent outside at Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) on Saturday, December 21, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Audubon provides warm cocoa, cider, and snacks for participants in the pavilion on the west side of the property. Dress for the outdoors and, if you choose, experience a short, reflective hike, led by Samsara Yoga Center to celebrate the season.
Participate in a release ceremony by creating a manifestation of something you would like to let go into the world – a hope or wish for others or a weight or burden you wish to be free of. Then toss it into the fire to release it.
You will want to wear appropriate footwear for a short walk on snowy or muddy trails to get to the bonfire. If you have a travel mug, ACNC encourages you to bring it.
The fee for participating is $6 for adults, $2 for children 3-15, and free for ages two and under.
Reservations are appreciated; walk-ins are welcome. For more information and to make reservations, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or go to AudubonCNC.org/Programs and click through “Current Schedule.”
